Making money on music…

joesflickr
The Long Tail reports on the success some websites in China are having monetizing music. Not through direct CD sales which everyone recognizes is as dead as yesterday’s news, but from other indirect methods including ring tones, and search. I and many others believe there is a model that will work for the artists and [...]

Zep Rises from the Ashes…

Just love the new media ability to capture stuff quickly and easily. Brilliant audio/video of course not but brilliant never the less. Great capture of some of the presence factor of iconic band.

Having a laugh …

Cory
I used to love reading comic books when I was younger, haven’t been doing much of that lately. Found a good one today-satirical comic on one of the head dinosaurs of a big record conglomerate. Have a good laugh and wave goodbye to the old guard.
Here is another work following new emerging internet direct marketing [...]

Snip Snip to RIAA Funding?

Kr0n
Looks like EMI of music industry and Sex Pistol song fame has decided to pull on the purse springs of industry pit bull: RIAA, et al.
The IFPI said on Wednesday it was engaged in annual budget decisions and “as one would expect in this market, there is a focus on efficiencies and savings”.
It declined to [...]

Art of Mental Warfare

ArtofMentalWarfare.com presents The Warning, a politically powerful new music video featuring Grammy Award-winning artist Trent Reznor. The Warning takes on the covert interests behind the war and our media saturated society. From war crimes to the destruction of the environment and a celebrity-obsessed culture, The Warning is a clarion call to action for an apathetic [...]

Feelin Trent, not Amazon

Some irony here since Trent had lengthy rant on his blog re: Universal jerking him around as he strives to better interface with his fans and listeners without the participation of the music industry. I wanted to buy download album from Amazon but got the , sorry mp3 files only for sale to US customers. [...]

Music critic with great POV

shoothead
Robert Christgau was a name spoken with reverence around the music community, particularly in NYC where i grew up and cut my musical listening teeth. When I was a kid the Village Voice was still a pay for weekly and a must have for the NY entertainment listings. Would always get to Christgau’s column after [...]

Gee, D’Ya Think…

loungerie
Happy that whiskey-money scion(Seagrams) and current head of Warner Music Edgar Bronfman chose to admit the obvious:
“We used to fool ourselves,’ he said. “We used to think our content was perfect just exactly as it was. We expected our business would remain blissfully unaffected even as the world of interactivity, constant connection and file [...]

The Empire Strikes back…

Smoking Gun
We all know how venal the record industry can be with partnering with the thuggish RIAA, etc. Here is another example. Radiohead’s old record label didn’t get a piece of the pie on the new work so they want to diminish it’s value by flooding the market. They still don’t get it do they? [...]

Can you say,”counter-intuitive”?

io2
Was reading this post on “Study: P2P Downloading Leads to More CD Sales” and shaking my head at it’s counter-intuitive logic. This is one of many of those things where you just shut up and read the numbers. Hey why can’t the entertainment conglomerates do that? Thanks for link Evo.
