Back in South Africa pretty much the only art of this kind was just plain vandalism and was usually full of curse words. On the same level as the stuff you'd see written public toilets.
The stuff I've seen around Taipei is actually pretty good and, as far as I've seen, in good taste. I would never of thought of it as street “art” before.
