This series (Vol.2 to come soon) was shot at and around the TaiYuan Station of the Taiwan Railway line (nearest to my house). Playing by the railroad tracks is nothing new for me. In fact as a boy I often would go walking through Brooklyn College (next to my house) to get to the LIRR freight line tracks that ran there. It was always a mixture of excitement and fear-the thrill of the unknown and the fear of the salt and pepper gun toting LIRR trainman ready to give you a butt full of the stinging pellets.Oh how I digress, none of that here in Taiwan which is very dense and where much of the population rides the rails fairly often.
The TaiYuan station services the local lines and most people use it for a short hop or to transfer at the larger Taichung Station for faster trains there.
Since the tracks cover so much territory they inevitably run past all kinds of people doing all kinds of things. A British friend of mine worked on the railroads here. He had many interesting stories. I recall the funniest one was how some of the track in southern Taiwan was to run through parts of pre-existing houses. The Railway Authority (the government) arranged for the partial demolition for the offending portion of the house and made restitution for only the portion they used not for the full house.
No reason not to make the mundane utilitarian bits more festive. This underpass is wide enough for pedestrians, bikes and motor scooters and solo cars (1 at a time).
One of the coolest things about this station is that the nearby elementary school often will have art exhibits there of painted lanterns or even painting directly on the outer station area. Youth folk art FTW!
Now you know I couldn't go with this title and not play something by the Clash. They came on during the punk rock days from England. The Clashwere one of the best bands from that time offering a wide variety of influences in their music and tons of passion in their playing and singing. Train in Vain sung by guitarist Mick Jones is one of their best songs in my opinion. I hope you enjoy it.
